Dear Student,

Welcome to the Social Science Department web site at Los Angeles City College. We are an interdisciplinary unit of faculty committed to lower and upper division instruction across the social sciences, with our major strengths in African American, Chicano, Asian American studies, Anthropology, Economics, History, Political Science, and Sociology. Certificate programs include Chicano and African American Studies.

The Social Science Department's primary mission is to facilitate the development of an informed citizenry by fostering skills in critical analysis and interdisciplinary dialogue engaged in understanding and comprehending globalization and its discontents. In this way we may better prepare our students for the global challenges that lay ahead, while stimulating richer lives and educational experience to university level and beyond.

We are in a unique juncture in that our in a major metropolitan city ensures that the Social Science Department is uniquely positioned to provide a diverse faculty and to teach varied courses designed to increase students¹ understanding and appreciation of the historical and contemporary diversity of national and global society.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
