This page is provided by the IT department to answer to some common questions.

Email

  • If you are a LACC employee, your email account is created automatically.
  • For others, a request from your department head is needed using the Request for Employee Network/Email Account form.
  • Be aware that email storage size is 250 MBs per user. If you need to save your emails, call IT for help on archiving your emails.

    Accessing Your Email
    There are two ways to access your email: via Web Access and Outlook. For most users, they both have the same functionality.

  • Web access: Go to the LACC Web site and click on "Faculty & Staff". Then, click on "Campus E-mail". Web access can be used from inside or outside campus. No configuration is needed.

  • Outlook setup: This is a one time setup for computers connected to the college network.

  • Outlook setup (Off-Campus Access): This is a one time setup for computers off-campus.

  • Entourage setup: This is a one time setup and it will work from anywhere.

  • iOS Setup: Setting up Exchange (E-mail) on iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices.

    Web Access

  1. At the "Campus E-mail" logon, enter your LACC username and password.

  2. On some computers, you will have to enter your password as "lacc_mail\username".

  3. In the security area, selecting Public or share computer, the system will disconnect you after 15 minutes if you have not click anything on the email site.
    Selecting Private computer, the system will disconnect you after 1 day. Make sure to Log Off from the email system when you are done.

    Outlook Setup for Computers On-Campus
    These instructions are for computers using Windows and Outlook 2003. This configuration needs to be done only once.
  1. Start and log into your computer using your LACC username as you would normally do.

  2. Click on the Start button. The Start menu will open up. Then, right-click on the Outlook icon and select Properties.
    (If you cannot find the Outlook icon, click on the Start button, Settings, Control Panel and Mail)
    The "Mail Setup" window will open. Click "Show Profiles ..."

  3. Click on “Add", type your username and click "OK".

  4. The "E-mail Accounts" window will open, select "Add a new e-mail account" and click "Next".

  5. The "E-mail Accounts - Server Type" window will open, select "Microsoft Exchange Server" and click "Next".

  6. The "E-mail Accounts - Exchange Server Settings" window will open.
       * In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type "LACC-ADEX".

       * Unselect "Use Cached Exchange Mode"

       * In the User Name box, type your username

       * Click Next

    A window might open asking you for your username and password. If it does, enter your username as "lacc_mail\Your_Username", password and click "OK"

  7. The final window will open; you are done. Click "Finish".

    To reach your email from your LACC computer, click on the Outlook icon.

    After configuring Outlook, you can still use the Web access to reach your email from your computer or any other computer from inside or outside campus.

 

    Outlook Setup for Computers Off-Campus
    These instructions are for computers using Windows and Outlook 2003. This configuration needs to be done only once and it will work from inside or outside campus.
  1. Start and log into the computer as you would normally do.

  2. Click on the Start button. The Start menu will open up. Then, right-click on the Outlook icon and select Properties.
    (If you cannot find the Outlook icon, click on the Start button, Settings, Control Panel and Mail)

       * In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type "LACC-ADEX.laccmail.lacitycollege.lacc".

       * Unselect "Use Cached Exchange Mode"

       * In the User Name box, type your username

       On the new window, select the Connection tab.

       * Select "Connect using Internet Explorer's or 3rd party dialer"

       * Select "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP"

       * Click Exchange Proxy Settings ...

       The Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings window will open.

       * In the https:// box, type "email.lacitycollege.edu"

       * In the Only connect to box, type "msstd:*.lacitycollege.edu"

       * Check "On fast networks, connect ..."

       * Check "On slow networks, connect ..."

       * Click Next


    A window might open asking you for your username and password. If it does, enter your username as "lacc_mail\Your_Username", password and click "OK"

  7. The final window will open. You are done. Click "Finish".

    Entourage Configuration for Inside or Outside Campus
    This configuration needs to be done only once and it will work from inside or outside campus.
  1. Start and log into the Macintosh as you would normally do.

  2. Launch Entourage. If the Entourage Setup Assistant opens, close it by clicking on the red circle in the upper left corner.

  3. Pull down the Tools menu and choose "Accounts."

  4. Click on the arrow next to New and select "Exchange..."

  5. When the Setup Assistant opens, click "Configure account manually."

  6. In the Account Settings tab under Edit Account, enter:
    • Account name - we recommend using "Exchange" (or an account name with the word Exchange in it).

    • Name - Your First & Last name.

    • E-mail address - Your LACC email address.

    • Account ID - Your username.

    • Domain - lacc_mail

    • Password - Your email password (you can choose to have your computer remember password or not).

    • Exchange Server - https://email.lacitycollege.edu/exchange.


    • Check the box next to "This DAV service requires a secure connection (SSL)."

  7. Click on the Advanced Tab and enter:
    • Public folders server - email.lacitycollege.edu/public

    • Check the box next to "This DAV service requires a secure connection (SSL)."

    • Click OK.

  8. Your Entourage email client should now be configured.


iOS
: Setting up Exchange (Email) on your iPod or iPad

Summary
Follow the instructions below in order to setup an Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device.

Follow these steps to setup your Exchange ActiveSync (Email) account your iOS device:

1.        Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange.

2.        Enter the information in the fields below, then hit Next:

3.     Your iOS device will now try to locate your Exchange Server. If necessary, you will need to enter your front-end Exchange Server's complete address in the Server field.

4.        Choose which content you would like to synchronize: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Tap Save when finished.

 Note: To modify your exchange settings, Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Exchange account, and tap Account Info.
